Review: Human Heart Nature 100% Natural Perfect Coverage Mineral Foundation

If you are a regular reader of my blog, you know that I have been battling acne since October 2013. Due to this problem, I decided to stop using anything that is not prescribed by my derma and avoided putting on makeup most of the time… well except for concealer to hide those ugly and embarrassing monsters. I’m afraid that using such products can derail the treatment which I wanted to get over with as soon as possible as my case of acne is getting really costly and embarrassing.

But then, there are times when I really need to look a bit more polished than usual so I decided to scour the internet for makeup that is recommended to people with skin issues such as mine. And since I have been trying to minimize the use of chemicals, I went on to look for natural cosmetics.

Given that the Human Heart Nature Iloilo branch is just a few minutes from my office, I decided that I should get this brand so that I never have to pay for shipping and I can see/test the actual product before buying. Before my store visit, I checked their website first to get ideas what to buy later on. I love that their site publishes honest product reviews from real people and offer refunds to people who are not satisfied with the product. Goes to show that they are confident about their products.

Do I feel the same about this foundation? Find out...

Review:

Packaging and Appeal. Like most compact foundation, the packaging of this one is rectangular. It comes with a mirror and a sponge. The palette has two sections; one for the compact foundation itself and the other for the sponge. I love that the slot for the sponge has holes allowing it (sponge) to breathe even inside the closed compact.

Scent. The foundation is not unscented but its scent is so light you can only smell it when you place the product really close to your nose.

Pigmentation. This foundation is available in four shades; vanilla for light-skinned women, honey for fair, caramel for medium and toffee for morena ones. When I went to their store, the sales rep advised me to get caramel since I am not that fair but I insisted that I get honey because I notice that face products tend to oxidize on me thus resulting to darker complexion. While caramel is ideal for me right after application, it may not be that great an hour or so after. With honey a bit lighter than caramel, it will still look okay on me even if it has oxidized already.

And I’m so glad I got this shade! It lightens my face without that “just-powdered-look”. It blends on my skin easily so applying is a breeze.

Texture. The texture of this product is smooth and finely-milled. I rarely see loose powder around the compact. However, a lot of users complain about theirs breaking inside their bags. HHN has long admitted that problem and explained that it is normal for mineral foundations, blushers and others to break easily since they do not contain chemical binders like most commercial makeups do. So to avoid wasting the product, I only apply at home and leave it there. After all, I rarely retouch when I’m already out of this house so it is not always necessary to take this along with me.

Staying Power. Considering that I have oily skin, most makeups only last around a couple of hours on me. However this one last three to four hours without retouch. But then, I just have to blot the oil off of my face every once in a while to maintain that “freshness”.

Ingredients. mica, zinc oxide (CI 77947), stearic acid (vegetable derived), titanium dioxide (CI 77891), magnesium myristate (vegetable-derived), silica, caprylic/capric triglyceride (coconut oil-derived), lauroyl lysine (amino acid-derived), Oryza sativa (rice) powder, magnesium stearate (vegetable-derived), Bambusa arundinacea (bamboo) stem powder, dicaprylyl ether (vegetable-derived), glyceryl caprylate (coconut, palm and glycerine-derived), tocopherol (vitamin E), farnesol, linalool (+/-): iron oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499)

Price. This foundation costs Php 595 but since they were having a sale when I got it, I only paid Php 395. Considering that it is 100% natural, the price is reasonable enough for me. Other foundations, even the non-natural ones cost more than that.

Availability. Unfortunately, HHN products are not available in most malls and if ever a mall carries the brand, they usually carry limited items. Your safest bet is going to an outlet near you and you can also order online through their website.
