Review: Sunskeen Protech Sunblock

In a tropical country like ours, sunblock should be used all-year round. Fortunately, health and beauty stores as well as grocery stores are teeming with products claiming to protect the skin against the harmful rays of the sun. The challenge, however, lies in choosing which product is right for your skin type.

I, for instance, have oily skin hence choosing a particular sunblock that will not make my skin oilier and my acne worse can be challenging. It’s always a trial and error method for me until my dermatologist suggested a product she approves.

Packaging and Appeal. The product comes in a tube with very simple graphics. It also comes in a box with an image of a wolphin as the main subject. At first I was kind of confused why that image. I thought that the sunblock contains something extracted from that animal but later on I realized that it’s just symbolism. wolphin, a rare hybrid from a bottlenose dolphin and a male false killer whale, symbolizes that the product is a hybrid also of two potent ingredients, Tinosorb M and Microfine Zinc Oxide. I could be wrong but that is the best explanation I can give. :D

The product itself is in cream form, no shimmer or anything. It’s consistency is just right, not as runny as Nivea Daily Face Fluid and not as thick as Nivea creme. It glides on the face smoothly during application and doesn’t leave white cast. it settles on the skin in less than a minute too.

Effectiveness. This sunblock has SPF 50 and so far it’s doing alright in protecting my skin against the harmful rays of the sun. I use this everyday to work and have also used this during a few outing trips and there is nothing I can complain about. One of the things I like most about this product is its oil-control capability. It is not making my skin really oily (and dirty-looking) the way other sunblocks do. While it is not giving me that matte-finish I am always dreaming of, I am glad that I can still use a sunblock without the grease. It’s not causing me new pimples either.

Scent. The product is fragrance free

Ingredients. Tinosorb M and Microfine Zinc Oxide
Price. Sunblocks are a bit pricey in the Philippines and this one is not an exception. The 50gram tube costs Php 695 from my dermatologist clinic.

Availability. As far as I know, this product is only carried by dermatologists. I am not sure if it is also available in drugstores.
